ANN BREWER MCNAMAR

Ann Brewer McNamar was born January 15, 1940 and died November 30, 2023.  She is the daughter of Harvey Brewer and Ruth Smith Brewer (both now deceased) formerly of Greenwood and Fort Wayne.  Ann attended school first in Greenwood and then in Fort Wayne where her family moved. She is a graduate of Fort Wayne North High School. 

            Ann then attended Purdue University on the West Lafayette campus. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and majored in Home Economics.  Ann graduated from Purdue in June 1962.  Ann and David were married in June 1963 and moved to San Diego CA where David’s ship was stationed.  They were transferred to Newport RI and then Boston where David was released from Active Duty in June 1965.  They moved to Bloomington, IN for David’s law school education.  Following his graduation, they moved to Indianapolis and raised their family.

            Ann taught high school Home Economics following her Purdue graduation at Fort Wayne Central High School, in Chula Vista, CA, and in Brown County High School, Nashville, IN.  While at Purdue, she was an active member of her Alpha Delta Pi sorority and remained active after graduation.  She and her alumni group assisted in the colonization of the Chapter at IU.  She served for over 25 years as a Board Member of the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis.  Ann was a member since high school of the Tri-Kappa service sorority and served as President of the Speedway Tri-Kappa group twice. She served as a Deacon and Elder of the John Knox Presbyterian Church, Speedway and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Ann was active in the Home Economics Guild in Indianapolis, Stansfield Circle, the Women in Neighborhood Service (WINS) group, and The Home Economics’ Guild.  She and David are life-members of the Purdue Alumni Association and the Indiana University Alumni Association.  They are also 50-year + members of the John Purdue Club as well as the Purdue President’s Council.  They were season ticket holders for many years at Purdue (football & basketball) and Indianapolis Colts’ starting with the arrival of the Colts from Baltimore.  Ann is the recipient of two awards from Purdue University for her community services. For years Ann played golfed initially at Crooked Stick Golf Club and then at The Country Club of Indianapolis.

            Ann is survived by her husband David, their three sons Richard (Wendy), Eric (Julie) and Gregory (Virginie).  They have six grandchildren, Delaney (Laney), Jones, Margaret (Meg), Nahia, Sean, and Tyler. She has a brother Philip K. Brewer (Carol) who now lives in South Carolina. Finally, she has 3 nieces and 3 nephews. 

            Services are planned to be held at the Flanner-Buchannan Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Dr. Visitation will be on Tuesday December 5, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the funeral service there on Wednesday. December 6 at 11:00 a.m.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send any memorials for Ann to the Ronald McDonald House Indianapolis or the Purdue University Foundation.
