Ann Baker Lapp

February 23, 1944 — September 18, 2024

Indianapolis, IN

Ann Baker Lapp, 80, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on September 18, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1944, in Indianapolis, to the late Dr. Leslie and Dolores Baker.

Ann grew up in Aurora, Indiana where she was affectionately known as “Bake.” She graduated from Aurora High School. She attended DePauw University where she was in Delta Gamma sorority, and then Indiana University. Ann eventually attended Indiana University School of Nursing and while there served on the IUPUI Union Board. This is where she met Michael Lapp, M.D. They were married in April, 1969 and raised their family in Indianapolis.

Ann had many interests in life. She was a skilled knitter, avid reader, and lover of birds, nature, landscapes, and PBS Specials. Through the years, she participated in many different book clubs, treasuring those friends and their vigorous discussions. Among Ann’s favorite times were her lunch dates with her closest friends and family. She was an unparalleled conversationalist, witty and funny, asking pointed questions, sharing her wisdom and insights, and always listening for the unstated but most important truths. Quietly, Ann modeled and supported individuals in their quests for self-improvement and self-care.

Ann was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she was especially fond of the incredible music department; in recent years she participated virtually every Sunday. Ann loved attending her grandchildren’s various sports, activities, and performances. They were the most precious parts of her world. She was generous and thoughtful in all that she did.

Ann is survived by her siblings: John G. Baker (Peggy) of Zionsville, IN; Mary Helen Crook (Jim) of Lawrenceburg, IN; Sarah Nahmias (Paul) of Greensburg, IN; children: Julie A. Stewart (Eric) of Indianapolis and John M. Lapp (Corrie) of Fishers; grandchildren Lucas Stewart, Madelyn Stewart, Macklin Lapp, Mason Lapp, Mary Heneghan and Sarah Heneghan, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Ann was preceded in passing by her parents, and her loving husband, Michael E. Lapp, M.D.

A visitation for Ann will be held on Tuesday, September 24, from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46260. The funeral service will follow at 2 pm. Ann’s final resting place will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Indianapolis.
