Mrs. Angelena (Angie) Gioe Winegar, daughter of the late Antonio Gioe and Frances Arri Comotto
Gioe was born October 12, 1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Angie was one of 11 children being the 8th
child. She lived most of her life at the corner of Raymond St. and Kitley Ave. She attended Lowell
Elementary School that was just down the street. She then attended Warren Central High School
graduating in 1943. She worked at L.S.Ayres in Indianapolis after graduation and then left there to
work for Naval Avionics War Plant at first in the plant and then in the credit union until after the war.
She left there to work for Morris Plan Credit Union until July 1947 when she was pregnant with her
first child. She was a stay at home mother for several years until her husband’s illness. She then went
back to work for Fidelity and Deposit in Indianapolis for several years making lifelong friends there.
She and her family attended Henninger Methodist Church which later became Good Shepherd United
Methodist Church when the new building was built. The Gioes were very active in the church, and she
continued to be so her entire life. She was loved by everyone and worked tiredlessly at all events at her
church. Her life was a wonderful example of true Christian stewardship and love of Jesus.
She married the love of her life, Lester M. Winegar, on March 29, 1947 after a brief courtship of about
5 months. One year later, they had the first of their five children (Kenny, Leslie, Peggy, Russell &
Mark). She was preceded in death by Lester on March 7, 2004. Lester had had a disabling stroke 20
years prior and she cared for him through this illness until his death. She was also preceded in death by
her eldest son, Kenny, and many of her brothers and sisters.
She was a soft spoken, angelic person cherished by her husband, children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Her influence will forever be seen in the lives of her family. She quietly slipped from
this life into the arms of Jesus on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Rosegate Care Center,
Indianapolis, Indiana.
She is survived by her brother, Carley Gioe and sister, Carrie Elrod along with her daughters, Leslie
Miller (Mike) and Peggy Schmidt, and her sons, Russell Winegar (Beth) and Mark Winegar (Laura), as
well as grandchildren, Amber Yowler, Amanda Henson, Jessica Filitti, Jeremy Miller, Erica Miller, Del
Schmidt, James Schmidt, Missy Bagienski, and several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren
and nieces and nephews. Her light will forever shine in the lives of her family, and she will be sorely
missed until we meet again.
