Anees “John” H. Kassis, 91, of Carmel passed away March 25, 2021. He was born July 3, 1929 in Birzeit, Palestine, the son of the late Hanna and Nama Kassis. He married Nadia A. Mushahwar on September 4, 1966.
John was a graduate of Montana State University, where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. John had a long career in governmental service, working as a civil engineer first for the United States Department of Transportation and then the Indiana Department of Transportation. He was an active member of the St. George Orthodox Church. His greatest passions were his church and spending time with his family, especially during the weekly Sunday dinner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nadia Kassis; four children, Diane (Edward) Ott, Hala (Michael) Kuss, Linda Kassis, and John (Brandi) Kassis; and 12 grandchildren, JJ, Jessica (Zachory), Madeleine, Kathryn (Chad), Timothy, Braden, Shane, Jurnee, Kailee, Amber (Garrett), Lauren (Kyle), Olivia (Rik).
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at St. George Orthodox Church, 10748 East 116th Street. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2021, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive, with the Trisagion service being at 5:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
