Andrew Martin, Sr. was born on November 3, 1930 in McCormick, South Carolina to the late Albert and Bessie Parker – Martin. Andrew was the third of sixteen children, thirteen boys and three girls. He was ninety-one years old. Andrew worked on the farm from a very young age, until he went to the U.S. Army in 1950.
Andrew met and married his first wife, Ruthie Mae Martin, in 1953. From that union came nine children, twenty grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. Ruthie preceded him in death in November 1982.
Andrew worked with his brother at W. T. Martin’s Plumbing, after leaving the U. S. Army, when he was hired at Allison Transmission. Andrew was transferred to General Motors a few years later, retiring from General Motors after 25 years.
Andrew married Mildred (Millie) Cunningham-Martin in 1975. Andrew and Millie enjoyed going to church, traveling, bowling in many leagues, and playing Bingo. Millie preceded him in death in May 2020, after forty-five years of marriage.
Also preceding in death were one sister, Martha Weatherly; ten brothers, Robert Lee Martin, Homer Martin, W. T. Martin, Milledge Martin, John Lester Martin, Barnett Martin, Woodrow Martin, Leon Martin, Frank Martin, and Edward Martin; one brother-in-law, Leonard Scott; two sons, Ralph (Joe) Martin, and Cray Anthony Martin.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Barbara Epps, Helen Green, Ruthann Rose, and Liz Humphrey; five sons, Andrew Martin, Jr., Anthony (Tony) Martin, Pierre Martin, Deondre Martin (Casandra), and Richard Martin; one step-son, Clinton Cunningham; two uncles, Cliff Parker of Indianapolis, Indiana and James Parker of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Addie Lee Scott of Cincinnati, Ohio and Georgette Wiggleton (Josh) of McCormick, South Carolina; two brothers, Douglas Martin of Oldsmar, Florida, and Wallace Martin (Lillian) of Greenwood, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Jerry Weatherly of Jacksonville, Florida; six sister-in-laws, Martha Martin of McCormick, South Carolina, Lee Marin of Greenville, South Carolina, Beulah Martin of Buffalo, New York, Lillian Martin of Greenwood, South Carolina, Tosca Martin of Buffalo, New York, Thelma Martin of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, great cousins, and friends too numerous to count.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 11am to 1pm at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park, with a funeral service to follow at 1pm. Andrew will be laid to rest in Floral Park Cemetery.
