Andrew "Andy" G Damm

June 23, 1962 — January 5, 2023

Zionsville, In

Andrew (Andy) Damm, loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and true friend and mentor to so many, passed away on Thursday, January 5th, 2023.  Andy was 60 years old and was surrounded by many loving family members and friends when he was called to be with the Lord.

Andy, the son of Robert L. Damm and Judy K. Ruggles (Zion) was born on June 23rd, 1962 in Batesville Indiana.  Andy grew up in Madison Indiana where he enjoyed many deep friendships and activities.  Andy’s love for community support was evident by his loyalty to the Madison Regatta.  Andy was a loyal fan of hydroplane racing and demonstrated his enthusiasm for the Miss Madison beneath the Damm Tree, along the riverbank without missing a year of attendance from 1968 through July 2022.

Andy graduated from Madison High School and attended Vincennes University where he earned his degree in Diesel Engineering.  He used his knowledge and skills over the years as an Engineer with many contributions to various companies involving medical equipment, industrial manufacturing and finally as the Vice President of Tri-K Machining Inc. in Danville Indiana.

Andy married his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) (Irmen), October 13th, 1990.  They have two children, Mitch and Stephen.  Andy loved and was so proud of his sons.  He was continually involved with his son’s coaching and supporting of the many sports and activities that they excelled in.  Andy loved his family time and always looked forward to spending valuable time together enjoying vacations, camping trips, boating adventures, sporting events, Easter extravaganzas and game nights full of laughing and fellowship with each other.

Andy, in addition to being a loving father, demonstrated the perfect example of Christ like servant leadership and was a mentor and friend to everyone that he met.  He shared and exemplified his unwavering faith in God through multiple ministries and callings, including 20 plus years of leading youth ministry at St. Alphonosus Catholic Church and being a living example of Christ’s love to fellow parishioners.  Andy was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and multiple parish ministries and projects supporting the parish community.  He also cherished volunteering at the Lord’s Pantry in Indianapolis.

When Andy learned that his cancer was terminal, his sadness came from knowing he would miss those cherished times with family and friends and his ability to serve others.  He was blessed to have been given the time to share his thoughts with family and able to communicate how much he loved them, how proud he was of each of them and how honored he was to be a part of their lives.  Andy had comfort in knowing that one day we would all be together again and content that he shared his Love of God, Love of Family and Love of Friendship with everyone.  Andy knew in his heart that his family was strong, confident and independent and that they will continue their lives with the values Andy shared and demonstrated.

Andy never liked the thought of saying goodbye but preferred to think of it as “until we meet again”.

Andy is proceeded in death most recently by his father, Robert Damm; his Father-in-Law, Sam Irmen; and his Mother-in-Law, Charlee Irmen.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betsy; Son, Mitch and his wife Elizabeth; Son, Stephen; Grandsons, Christian and Cole; Brother, David and his wife Robin; Sister, Angela Craig-Damm; Nephew, Dominik and his wife Lauren; Nephew, Daniel and his fiancé Kenzie; Niece, Sydney and her husband Chad and Oliver & Winston; and mother, Judy K Ruggles and her husband Robert “Bob” Ruggles.
