Alta Mae Harmon
93 years old, of Zionsville, IN passed away on December 5, 2016. She was born on August 27, 1923 in the family homestead in rural Lebanon, IN to the late parents of Otha and Lora (Parrish) Padgett. She graduated from Kirklin High School in Boone County in 1941. Alta was a lifetime resident of Boone County; employed at Greenes Milo Market in Lebanon and Winklers during WWII making bomb shells. Alta married the love of her life James Harmon on December 28, 1951, she resided on the family farm working with her husband and raising their four children. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, food preservation, and love for reading the local newspapers daily, keeping up with current events. Alta love getting together with family for special dinners, which was her pride and joy.
Alta is survived by her children, Deborah J. Harmon of Zionsville, Ernest J. Harmon of Zionsville, Cheryl J. Allen (Michael) of Chesterfield, IN, and William J. Harmon of Zionsville; grandchildren, Heather Stansel (Travis) of Texas, Jennifer Gershkoff (Brian) of Ohio, and Samuel Allen of Chesterfield, IN; great-grandchildren, Lacy Stansel, Tristen Stansel, and Holden Stansel of Texas; sister, Imogene Moore (Robert) Bellevue, OH, and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband who passed away on Dec 7, 1998, James Harmon; sisters, Crystal Green (Cleo), Lucille Hodges (Mark), Flora Moore (Paul), and Ilo Keeney (William); brother, Ivan Padgett (Julia), and a sister-in-law, Margaret Jorn (King).
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent Hospice and in honor of her husband Alzheimer’s Association.
Family and Friends may call from 4:00pm-8:00pm Sunday, December 11, 2016 with Funeral Service Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00am in Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville 105 W. Pine St Zionsville, IN. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN
