Alta “Faye” Houck, 85, from Greenfield, Indiana, died peacefully at home on December 26, 2021. Houck was born on July 7, 1936, in Metamora, Indiana to Charles and Cora Halcomb. She was the third oldest sibling of ten and spent her adolescence living and working on the farm. She married Kenneth Houck on March 1, 1957 and later moved to Indianapolis.

Everyone thinks their grandma is the best cook, but ours actually was. She loved to feed people and you didn’t usually leave her house without a full stomach. She was the best listener. She cracked the funniest jokes. Her smile was contagious, and her laugh was hysterical. She was a master seamstress. She loved gardening, knitting, and spending time with her family. Most grandmas do, but the relationship she had with her grandkids was unmatched. She loved watching sports but loved them even more when her grandkids were playing. She was a shining example of what it meant to live with unconditional love for others. She was born to be someone’s mother and grandma, and we’re so lucky she was ours. She was the ultimate caregiver- thoughtful, affectionate, nurturing, and devoted her life to her ever-growing family.

She loved Christmas and we aren’t surprised that she made sure to have one more before she eft to be with her loved ones who preceded her in death: her husband, Kenneth; parents, Charles and Cora; sisters, Helen Kennel and Joyce Bird; and brother, Donald Drew. Houck is survived by her children, Linda Barclay, Elaine (Gene Featheringill) Snapp, Ken (Mary) Houck; seven grandchildren Jason (Sarah) Barclay, Jaime (Jake) Perez, Evann (Matthew) Martin, Austin (Ladan) Morgan, Ashley Morgan, Rachel Houck ,KC Houck; and seven great grandchildren, Annie, Will, Cole, Beau, Carter, Kennedy, Isaiah. She is survived by siblings Dolores (Arthur) Jackson, Belva Stirn, Patty Hall, Winton (Shirley) Halcomb, Wayne (Sharon) Halcomb, Debbie (Dwight) Race, Elton Kennel; bonus daughters Vanessa Moore and Teri Eqwa; and dear friends Anna and Ellie.

Faye’s services will be private. Her family will host a public celebration of life at a later date.
