Alonzo “Nick” Nicodemus,
95, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on April 21, 1922 to Alonzo and Naomi Nicodemus.
Nick enlisted in the Marines, serving our country during WWII, and went on to serve for many years in the Indiana National Guard, retiring as Lt. Colonel.
He was a career educator, starting as a grade school teacher and eventually moving into school administration. He served Washington Township as the principal at Crooked Creek Elementary and Greenbriar Elementary schools for over 30 years.
Nick was an avid golfer for over 40 years. He was active in the Indianapolis Golf Association and was also a member of the USGA. After retirement he developed considerable skill in woodworking and made many pieces of fine furniture for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Nicodemus and grandson, Jeff Nicodemus. He is survived by his children, Terry (Mary) Nicodemus and Marilyn Teal; sister, Lois Jennings; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Nick requested no calling or funeral services be held. A private inurnment will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery by his family at a later date.
