Alice Anna Szteleblak

Alice Anna Szteleblak 94, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in a family members home on December 9, 2020. She was born on August 11, 1926 in Zwickau, Germany as the daughter of Max and Hedwig (Uebel) Bauer.

Alice was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Jan, during their 72 years of marriage.  Jan, Alice, and their daughter, Petra, immigrated to the United States in 1952.  Alice was a hardworking employee in the food industry for thirty years.  Her employment was split between the coffee shop at Community Hospital East and the cafeteria of Tech High School in the Indianapolis Public School system where she attained a manager position for each job.  After her retirement in 1985 Alice and Jan enjoyed going to horse shows and traveling to various places around the midwest.

Alice was very proud of her German heritage and would share stories with anyone who would like to hear them.  She was affectionately known as Oma to many which means Grandma in German.  Throughout her life she enjoyed all aspects of music: singing and playing, and especially dancing.  She was able to do all three when she played the accordion which is probably why she loved it so much.  But her favorite of all was to dance with Jan.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Petra Hager (Robert); granddaughter, Stephanie Clifford (Chris) ; grandson, Peter Schilling (Tricia); and great-grandchildren, Kate, Ben, Nick, Matt, Jacob, Alex and Emma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan; her parents; brothers Arthur and Carl, and sister, Hilde.

The family would like to thank hospices services for making Alice comfortable in her final days and providing support to the family.

The family will have visitation at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East on Thursday, December 17 from 12:30-1:30 PM with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:30 PM.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
