Alfred Joseph Long, 97 of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday February 25, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 7, 1923 in Indianapolis, IN to the late John V. and Anna J. Long. Al retired from Ford Motor Company where he was a Journeyman Machinist. He served in the Air Force during World War II, and continued to serve his country by performing hundreds of military funerals for fellow veterans. Al was a lifetime member of the VFW, and the American Legion.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Ann Long; daughters, Leslie (Tom) Potts, Laura (Mike) James, and Linda (Hal) Gambrel, twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in passing by his son, John Michael Sims; brother, John; and sister, Rosemary.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Thursday March 4, 2021 beginning at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Church (7243 E. 10th St., Indiana, IN 46219), where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am.
