Alfred Davy Kneessy

Alfred Davy Kneessy (90) died July 3, 2020 of natural causes. Born in New York City, Davy grew up in Louisville, KY. Following graduation from the Virginia Military Institute as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, he served 30 years in the U S Army Medical Department retiring as a Colonel in command of the World Wide U S Army Environmental Hygiene Agency. He simultaneously served as Assistant Chief of the Army Medical Service Corps and Chief, Sanitary Engineering Section, Medical Service Corps. Recipient of numerous awards, he was twice decorated with the Legion of Merit. A registered Professional Engineer, he earned an M.S. in Industrial Hygiene at the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters in Public Health from John’s Hopkins. He was a Diplomate of the Academy of Environmental Engineers and certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and the Board of Safety Professionals. Retiring to Indianapolis (1981), he joined the Indiana OSHA program, finally serving as Deputy Commissioner of Labor for IOSHA. A resident of Marquette Retirement Community in Indianapolis, he served on the Resident Council and was a long time member of the Marquette Foundation Board of Directors. Memorial service via Zoom with separate committal (both TBD) to follow at St Paul’s Episcopal Church where he was a long time member and for over a quarter century the Director of the Lector’s Guild. Davy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean Terry. Survivors: Caroline Boaz Russell-Maine, Kathryn Davy Gooding-Illinois, and George Davy Kneessy, Florida. Six grandchildren.
