Alan Eugene Messmore, age 81 of Greenfield, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, August 8, 2024. 

Cremation Rites will be accorded. At Alan’s wishes, no services will be held.

Alan was born on July 23, 1943 in Peru, Indiana, a son of Kenneth Eugene and Dorothy Noreen (nee Brown) Messmore.

He married Bonnie Tharp on September 8, 1961 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Bonnie Messmore of Greenfield, Indiana.

Together Alan and Bonnie had two sons: Paul Messmore and Patrick Messmore.

He is survived by his son: Patrick (wife Denise) Messmore of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his son Paul Messmore who preceded him in death on May 30, 2010.

Alan is also survived by an older brother Dr. Peter B (wife Rosemary) Messmore of Florida and older sister Bonnie (husband James – deceased) Bowles of Louisville, Kentucky.

Alan attended Thomas Carr Howe High School in Indianapolis in the Irvington area graduating in the class of 1961. The same year he married his wife Bonnie (Tharp) Messmore.

Two years later they welcomed their first son Paul and about six years after that they welcomed their second son Patrick.

Alan worked in the freight and trucking industry for many years. After his career in this field, he and his wife Bonnie purchased the Cumberland Flower shop and operated it from June of 1985 to July of 2011. 

Alan was a simple man who loved the Lord and his church. He and Bonnie attended Calvary Tabernacle Church for many years. He enjoyed rocks, nature, the woods and trees. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed walking and flower gardening. Alan was a goodhearted man who will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
