Agnes Louise Henson

Agnes L. Henson, age 94 of Shelbyville, IN, passed away on September 27, 2020.  Agnes was born in Bethpage, TN on September 25, 1926 to parents, Hardy Roark and Edith Garland (Templeton) Thompson.  During her career, Agnes worked at P.R. Mallory’s, Capitol Paper and A&P Bakery.

Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She adored her family and supported her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.  She was an exceptional gardener and loved canning and cooking all that she grew.  She was also a great seamstress.  Agnes was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing, bowling and square dancing.  She was a member of the Thursday Morning Ladies Golf Club and the Foxy Ladies Bowling League at Southern Bowl.  Agnes attended Hamilton Hills Church and Crossroad Community Church.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Edith; her husband of 57 years, Johnnie Louis Henson, whom she married on January 31, 1942; and one son-in-law, Michael Fahey.

She will be lovingly missed by her son, Johnnie F. (Donna) Henson; daughters, Joyce Fahey and Loretta (Bill) Coffey; grandchildren: Monte (Chantel) Henson, Mark (Jill) Fahey, Heather (Dan) Coyle, Michelle Collings, David (Megan) Fahey, Nic (Alyson) Coffey and Sam (James) Evans; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Christell (Cordell) Henson and HG (Pat) Thompson; as well as many other loving extended family members and friends.

Calling will be held from 11am until 1pm, Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis), where funeral services will follow beginning at 1pm.  Burial will follow services in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research or the Alzheimer’s Association for Dementia Research.
