Afrah Karim

Afrah” Lorene” Karim, was born on January 23rd of 1936 in, Hernando Mississippi the daughter of Jimmy and Irene Howell. Afrah moved to Michigan City, IN in 1960 after migrating from the south. She married the love of her life Troy Karim April 23, 1963. Afrah had two children Ronnie Howell and Maxine Evans and adopted sons Omar Karim and Bilal Karim. 

She gave herself to Allah at an early age where she was a member of Mumin Islamic Temple. Her passion in life was taking care of others. She was a CNA for numerous healthcare facilities throughout Flint, MI. She retired from the State of Michigan where she was a foster parent. 

 When she wasn’t taking care of children, she enjoyed gardening, shopping for the latest fashions, traveling and going to Blues Concerts. She had a saying “I pay the cause to be the Boss” and she was definitely a Boss. 

Afrah Karim is survived by her sons Omar and Bilal Karim of (Spring valley MI); Grand Children Teresa Evans (Anthron Johnson) of Peoria IL; Tiffany Evans-Harris of Flint MI; Ozier Evans of Peoria IL, Capre Evans of Flint, MI; Shameka (Kevin Williams) of Indianapolis, IN; Kenyanna Gorden ; Billy Gorden, Keshanna (Blakely Peterson) Peterson, Kenneth Gorden all of Flint, MI; Troy Howell of Kansas City, Missouri, Emonne (Jazz) Nixion of Indianapolis, Indiana; Lovie Michelle Steward (L.P.) and Brian Rhodes of Michigan City, Indiana. Host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

 Afrah, passed away at Eagle Valley Nursing Home on her 89th Birthday. She was preceded in death by parents Jimmy and Irene Howell, Grandfather Dora Oliver, Husband Troy Karim, Son Ronnie Howell; Daughter Maxine Evans, Great Grandchildren Coreyanna Hogan, Cariayanna Gorden. 

  A private Memorial Service will be held by the family on February 7th , 2025.
