Adam Eugene Schenkel

October 20, 1980 — February 27, 2021

Carmel, IN

Adam Eugene Schenkel, 40, of Carmel passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Adam was born October 20, 1980 to Robert and Lea Schenkel. He and his twin brother were the 2nd and 3rd children of 5. Bryan passed away 10 days later on October 30th, 1980 but Adam was a fighter from Day 1, which only continued through the rest of his life. Due to his premature birth, Adam was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, something he never let hold him back from living. Growing up, Adam was raised Catholic and strongly held onto his faith and love of Jesus Christ. Adam was the middle of his two brothers with a sister as the youngest. Adam adored his siblings and always believed family came first. His big brother Dan was who he admired and loved to joke around with. His little brother Scott was who he truly respected. His little sister Jill was who he trusted most to have his back. Adam adored his niece Gracie and any time spent with her was the highlight of his day. Adam also had a little buddy Preston who was like a son to him and one of the brightest spots of his life. While these people were important to him, Adam would tell you his dad and mom were the best people in his life. Adam revered his father and wanted nothing more than to emulate him. Adam respected no one more than his father. His mother was the one person he could always count on and he loved his mother more than anyone else.
Later in life, Adam struggled with addiction. During that time, many people chose to distance themselves from him and for that, he was truly sorry. Adam fought a long and hard battle with addiction but thanks to his parents, siblings, and best friend Barry, he made it out of the darkest part of his life and over the last few years was finally on the up. He battled the disease of addiction daily but overcame it with the help of those he loved most.
If all you knew of Adam was his addiction, you were not blessed enough to really know him. Anyone who truly knew Adam knew he would give you everything he owned just to put a smile on your face and make your life easier. He would always make you laugh, ask what he could do to help you, and drop everything to be there for you.
Due to his many years of addiction and abuse to his body, Adam’s heart gave out in the early hours of Saturday, February 27. Adam is survived by his parents Robert and Lea Schenkel, his brothers Daniel (Jennifer) Schenkel, Scott (Kelly) Schenkel, his sister Jillian Schenkel, his niece Gracen, his nephew Kimbal, his little buddy Preston Crews, his best friend and “brother” Barry Trefethen, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his twin brother Bryan Eric Schenkel, grandfather Dale E Schenkel, cousin Michael R Schenkel, grandfather Donald E Kurtz, uncle Kevin P Brazil, and most recently his grandmother Patricia R Schenkel. Adam will be missed by all for his kind heart and positive attitude.
