William Francis Freije Jr., 94, co-founder of the Indianapolis based mechanical engineering and contracting firm Wm. F Freije, Inc. passed peacefully at home January 19. Bill, a man full of integrity and wisdom, strived to live a life that reflected his strong Christian values.
As an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, he held leadership roles as a Deacon and Elder and served many years on the Building and Grounds Committee. Bill graduated from the School of Engineering at Purdue University in 1949 and worked as a Professional Engineer in several states. He married the love of his life, Patricia, in 1950 and enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force as an officer during the Korean War.
Bill was CEO of William F Freije Inc. and a member of the Lyndhurst Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine. In addition, he served as president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Indiana, and president and board member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers.
Famous for his Caesar salad, storytelling, and pithy sayings, Bill loved and enjoyed life. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. Bill traveled extensively with his wife Pat, was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hosting family and friends at the lake cottage, and was a great bridge player, golfer, bowler and waterskier.
Bill was an excellent role model for his family and a devoted husband. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia to whom he was married 72 years, sister, Barbara Berting, brother, Richard Freije, and children: Deborah (Tom), William (Sandy), Julie (Scot), and Matthew. He leaves 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way). Bill was truly loved and will be sorely missed.
We give our heartfelt thanks to Toni, Carl, and Chester, who lovingly provided excellent care for dad during the past three years. Visitation hours will be held on Monday, January 30 from 10:15 to 11:30 at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Blvd. E. Dr., Indianapolis IN 46220. Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:30 and a luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northminster Church designated for the Building and Grounds Committee.
