William Eugene Miller

Indianapolis, Indiana

William Eugene Miller passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2022. He was born February 3, 1929, to Alban W. and Margaret M. Miller in Indianapolis. He graduated from Ben Davis High School and served in U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Fort Lee Virginia. Bill started a 35 year career with the Indianapolis Star and News newspapers in 1955 as a machinist, retiring in 1990.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary Katherine Miller. They have 4 children, Joe, (Kris), Steve, (Ellen), Andy, and Susan Hoff (Mike). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Karla (John) Holdcraft, Kelly (Tim) McKay, Kasey (Dan) Sealy, Kim (Anthony) Geraghty, Terry (Nancy) Miller, Katie (Michael) Crafton, Patrick Miller, Becky (Alex) Battiato, Emily (Patrick) Rivelli, and Nicole Hoff. Bill is also survived by their 15 great-grandchildren Benjamin, Griffin, and Dylan Holdcraft, Leah, Reid and Haley McKay, Paige and Cooper Sealy, Charles and Grace Miller, Michael, Robert and Andrew Crafton and Oliver and Adeline Battiato. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Robert, Thomas, and sister Lillian. He is survived by his brother Jim.

Bill enjoyed gardening, home maintenance, electronics, working with his hands, and some cooking too. He was also active in Christ the King Catholic Church as a Cub Scout leader, a many year choir member, and maker of thousands of beaded rosaries for others. Later in his rosary ministry, he learned to hand-tie twine rosaries for military personnel as well. He taught many (adults and students alike) how to make rosaries for others at Christ the King. Bill loved “doing for others”, whether it was shoveling snow for the older neighbors, fixing a lawn mower, or a home issue, he was a good neighbor before State Farm got the idea, “Like a good neighbor, Bill Miller is there”

Services for Bill will be held Wednesday, July 6th at 10:30 A.M. at Christ the King Catholic Church 5884 Crittenden Ave. Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave. Tuesday, July 5th from 5:00-8:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 3001 E. 30th St. Indianapolis, IN 46218.
