William A. Sayre (Al) born in 1930 to Mamie and Lloyd Sayre in Anderson County Kentucky. He graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington Kentucky and joined the United States Navy in 1950 to begin his studies for a career in electronic engineering.
He met his wife Lusina Ormsby Sayre in Chicago in 1951 when he was approached by her friend seeking a sailor’s hat for a scavenger hunt. Wed in 1952, they lived in Norfolk VA, Effingham IL, and Charleston, South Carolina while Al completed his service.
While working for Kentucky Utilities and the Psych Annex maintaining the testing equipment, Al attended University of Kentucky and obtained his B.S degree in electrical engineering. After completion of his degree in 1958, Al and Lu moved to Indpls where he worked for the United States government at Naval Avionics. He was a production and design engineer for missile test sets, radar, satellite and weather receivers. He enjoyed traveling for work or vacation to Korea, China, Germany, France, and Mexico. Al took pleasure in fishing, bowling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beautiful, successful and intelligent children: Becky (R.J.), Bill (Jennifer), and Cecil (Amy Jeanne), along with his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lusina, brothers Robert and John, and sister Betty.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6th, from 1:30 – 2 pm, followed by a service at 2 pm, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Good Shepherd Chapel, 9700 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
