Wanda Lynn Shelton

Wanda Lynn (Snow) Shelton was born November 28, 1954 in Indianapolis to Jim and Geneva Snow. She was a part of a large family with five brothers (Gene, Pete, Willard, Marvin, Ronnie, and Carlos) and two sisters (Marsha and Darlene). She spent the entirety of her formative years in Indianapolis, ultimately graduating from Arsenal Technical High School.

She began family life with husband Gary Shelton Sr. shortly after high school; this marriage produced her three sons Gary Jr, Keith, and Tyre. The young family was greatly supported and loved by their extended family that lived almost exclusively on the same neighborhood street. During this time, Wanda worked for Western Electric and devoted her energy to raising her three boys and making their family house into a home. After Western Electric, Wanda began working at Federal Home Loan Bank (Indianapolis); she continued her employment there for 32 years. As an employee, she wore many hats and saw many role changes and advancements during her career. She retired from the bank September 8, 2015.

After divorce and raising her sons, Wandas second chapter of her life began by her attending classes at Indiana Wesleyan University and ultimately earning her Bachelors and Masters degrees. This was also a time that she dedicated to Eastern Star Church as a member of the choir. She loved singing at each of the locations and spending time with the choir members during the practice sessions. Wanda enjoyed her opportunity to travel the world with her friends (she said it was one of the benefits to having children when she was young) and to plan a yearly family vacation with her sons and their families. Grandma loved to pack her car and see the sports and school activities that her grandkids participated in. Even when battling illness, she would ask about how her babies were doing. She leaves behind a loving legacy of grandchildren: Tierney, Kalia, Taylor, Khole (Gary Jr); Collin and Grant (Keith); Adrienne, Michael, Tyre Jr., Cayden, and Paisley (Tyre), and great grandchildren: Brenden, Logan, and Rylan (Adrienne).

Mama went home to be with the Lord on November 18, 2015. Her familys emotional pain is eased by the knowledge that her physical pain has ceased. Though we will miss her dearly, we know that she has received her perfect body as a daughter of Christ.

She will have her visitation at Flanner and Buchanan Washington Park North (2706 Kessler BLVD W. Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46228) Tuesday November 24 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Her funeral service will be Wednesday November 25, with a visitation from 10 am-11am and ceremony beginning at 11 am.
