Walter George Shelton
88, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. Walter was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 4, 1928 to parents, Anthony “Tony” and Millie A. (Winkler) Shelton. He worked as an Engineer for Western Electric, retiring in 1984. Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was fun-loving and humorous and enjoyed golfing, woodworking and spending time with family and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Dolores A. “Dee” Shelton; parents, Tony and Millie Shelton; siblings: Ruby Humes (Jake), Helen Pogue (Russell “Tut”), Bessie McGuffin (Jack), Preston Shelton and Catherine Shelton.
Walter is survived by his children: Kathy Sclight (Ron), Roy Shelton (Emily), Jolinda Roberts (Jim) and David Shelton (Teressa); grandchildren: Allison Jadvani (Johnathon), Jonathon and Joseph Roberts, Matthew and Jason Shelton, Alexandra Stacy, Hannah Shelton (fiancée, Blake Davis), Ashley and Benjamin Geise; great-grandson, Charlie Jadvani; and sister-in-law, Esther Shelton.
The family would like to acknowledge with great appreciation the care and compassion shown to Walter by his loving caregivers, Deborah Hampton and Bob Hutt. They will forever be grateful for the kindness you have shown.
Friends and family will gather from 11am until 1pm on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis. Burial will be private in Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
