TINE PEYTON MARTIN, SR
Tine P Martin, Sr, 92, died peacefully at his home January 27, 2023. He was born May 28, 1930, in Indianapolis, IN, to Ulice Martin and Annabel (Bristow) Martin.
Tine graduated from Ben Davis High school, Class of 1948. Following graduation, he served with the US Army of 865th AAA BN during the Korean War and was also in the Air Force Reserves of 434th Air Refueling wing. Despite not being required to report for duty after being drafted, due to being an only child, he was proud to answer the call to serve. Tine was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years and also worked for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in various positions including driving the tour bus, USAC Tech Crew and most known for refueling cars for Valvoline and Pennzoil. He was a former National Director of the Korean War Veterans Assoc., a Life Member of American Legion Post #500, a loyal member of the V.F.W. Post #6128, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Old Timers Club, Charter Member of USAC, NALC Branch 39, Mooresville Seniors Bowling League and a proud volunteer for the Indy Honor Flight.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife of 40 years Wilma “Joan” (Baugh) Martin, granddaughter Geneva “Jenny” Simpson, and great grandson Jacob Pence. Surviving in addition to his wife Virginia (Appleby) Martin who he met in grade school and reconnected 40 years later, is his son Tine Martin, Jr. (Ella), daughters Luann Simpson (Donald) and Dianne Tillett, stepson Michael Lamar and stepdaughter Susan Wade (Richard), 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren with 1 on the way.
Tine always had the greatest smile on his face. He never met a stranger and greeted everyone with the biggest hug. Some of his hobbies included golfing, fishing, bowling and of course he loved racing. He was a boy scout and went on to be a boy scout leader with his son which he enjoyed very much. He also loved spending time with his family. He was the proudest father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather and enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in sports and made sure to never miss a game or meet. He was a member of Ben Davis Christian Church. He was a proud veteran and enjoyed going to the WWII Roundtable every month. He also loved volunteering for various organizations including the Indy Honor Flight which was near and dear to his heart!
