Timothy Francis Hahn, 74, Westfield, passed away April 25, 2018. He was born May 26, 1943, in Indianapolis, the son of the late John Francis and Mary Catherine (McHugh) Hahn. He married Linda Owens on May 4, 1968. Tim proudly served in the Army Infantry of the National Guard. He worked for the Indianapolis Star as the Safety Manager for more than 27 years, starting out as an apprentice printer and working his way up to management. He then worked for Safety Management Group, spreading his years of professional experience, as well as his big personality to his co-workers and eventually became the company's very first retiree. After working closely with Lucious Newsom and The Lord's Pantry for several years, Tim felt Jesus calling him to help Westfield's needy friends. With just two bags of groceries, he set up Helping Hand of Hamilton County in Westfield. About seven needy people showed up to collect free food, and the ministry grew to help hundreds of people over the next years. He helped people celebrate birthdays and good reports cards, his thinking being that it may be the only celebration available. One of his favorite parts was little ones running up to him calling him "Papa," and soon he was known as everyone's Papa. If it was an electric bill, help with rent or food, Tim would find a way to help through donations from the community. He often shared stories of how he wouldn't be able to meet a need, but suddenly a donation would come that would meet the need and then some. His work was featured in both The Current in Westfield and The Criterion. A man of great faith, he never worried about how to make it happen - he let Jesus do that. In 2016, Tim was awarded the Spirit of Service Award for his faithful and dedicated service. In addition to serving others, Tim was passionate about music and spending time with his family. Since the early '80s, Tim sang and played guitar at numerous masses, funerals, first communions and reconciliations and several retreat weekends. In 2000, with the help of others, he created a CD and sold it with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society and Lucious Newsom's The Lord's Pantry. During the month of May, one of Tim's favorite things to do was to go to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on a nice day and watch Indy 500 practice and qualifications. We're pretty sure he holds the record for getting the most things for free - if it was not paying for parking, getting a free beer from a suite or grabbing some free fried chicken from a tent he didn't belong in. One year he got to drive his Toyota around the track, and coming into the straightaway, he popped open a Coors Light, figuring it was the first time that had ever happened on the Yard of Bricks. One of his favorite track stories was when he somehow got into a tour group into the Pagoda (for free, of course). The guide was asking the group some trivia questions about track history and Tim correctly answered "Troy Ruttman." The guide was impressed and asked how he knew that. Tim answered,"I AM Troy Ruttman." Obviously, the rest of the day he was treated as a local celebrity as of course, the crowd bought it. Tim was full of love and laughter always. His bright personality was one you couldn't forget. He was the best story-teller, could make you believe about anything and was always a leader - our patriarch, loving husband and Dad, the best Papa to his grandchildren and truly the hands and feet of Jesus on Earth. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Hahn; three children, Amy (Brent) Bolick, Matthew (Cari) Hahn, Emily Reed; six grandchildren, Sophia, Carly, Grace, Nathaniel, Olivia, and Dylan; siblings, Mary Jane (Mark) Felts, Kathy (Ralph) Collins, Patty (Dave) Strother, Ann Marie (Brian) Miller, and John P. Hahn; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 17102 Spring Mill Road. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Miracle Place.
