We regret to announce the passing of Susan L Ward (Broad), 68, of Fishers, Indiana, on January 5th, 2023. Susan passed away after a 37-year battle with brain cancer. She spent her last 8 years as a resident of a nursing home where she was well known by all the staff and residents due to her smile, laugh, and willingness to talk to everyone. She knew no strangers.
Susan is predeceased by her mother Marilyn Broad (Reeves), father Fred Broad, and son Christopher Ward (Becky). She is survived by her sisters, Linda Lester and Holly Dennett (Mark); her grandsons Abbott Ward and Zander Ward; Dennis Ward, her husband of 40 years; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Susan was born March 15, 1954 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Her family later moved to Bay Village, Ohio; Portland, Oregon; and Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from North Central High School and continued her education at Indiana Business College. After graduation, she was employed by a local architectural firm and later a general contractor as a secretary. After the birth of her son in 1977, she became a stay at home mom, spending her time enjoying her family. She also worked part time providing private child care services for up to five newborns, as she loved babies.
In May of 1985, Susan was diagnosed with brain cancer. After surgery, radiation, and chemo, she was given a 30% chance to survive six months. She always maintained a cheerful, positive attitude, knowing she would prove them wrong. Her Oncologist always called her his miracle child, and that she was.
