Susan “Sue” Joan Swanson (née Anderson), 81, Carmel, IN went home to be with her Lord on December 13, 2021. She was born in Bloomington, IL to Roy Axel and Olga Selma Sophia Anderson.
Sue grew up in a tight knit Swedish community and loved being close with her siblings. After high school, she began her love of Purdue by working on campus in the residential life area supporting her husband through his studies in Pharmacy. After her time at Purdue, she embarked on her greatest accomplishment, raising her family. After her three children were older, she transitioned from loving mother to becoming a professional travel agent; where she was able to visit many different places and create memorable trips for clients.
While she enjoyed her travels, her true passion was creating memories with family and friends. Whether it was entertaining at the lake home, visiting grandkids for various sports and activities, or attending Purdue sports, she was happiest when everyone could gather. She especially enjoyed tailgating at football games where many people over the years got a taste of her famous breakfast burritos before the game.
Most summers Sue would host “Camp Swanson” at the lake home for her grandchildren. Camp Swanson would often include Sue’s favorite vinyl’s being played while teaching the grandchildren popular dance moves, dusk boat rides, Euchre/Tripoley tournaments, and homemade meals.
Everyone will remember Sue by her big heart and generous spirit. She took great pride in supporting her community, especially at-need individuals by providing housing, clothing, and basic goods. She was also heavily involved in church and philanthropic endeavors, which were very important to her and a big part of her life. Sue loved her Swedish heritage and passed down traditions to her children and grandchildren. Her favorite traditions included Korv Potato Sausage making before Christmas, spritz cookies, attending performing arts, and brewing the family favorite glögg.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Nancy Guber, Charlotte Christian and Jim Anderson.
Survivors include her beloved husband and life companion of 61 years, Lawrence, “Larry”, Children; Kristina (Brian) Monson, Eric (Maria) Swanson, and Marc (Jennifer) Swanson, grandchildren; Birgitta Monson, Mason Swanson, Karena Monson, Ashton Swanson, Carter Swanson, Luke Swanson, and Victoria Swanson and many nieces and nephews.
