Shirley Marie Wolfley, (a lady never tells her age) was born on January 19 (nice try) in Culver City, California. She passed away peacefully on December 2, 2020. Shirley graduated from Speedway High School in 19(still not telling). During her senior year, she met the love of her love, David. They were married on October 2, 1971 (shoot! Sorry mom) They enjoyed several years together before they realized something was missing. For her husband, it was a little red sports car. For her, it was a baby. In August of 1987, they adopted/welcomed their daughter, Delena. She was the apple of Shirley’s eye, an angel and an absolute joy to raise. During her career, Shirley worked as an auditor for a mortgage company that has changed its name so many times I lost count. She made many life long friendships and retired in 2015. Shirley enjoyed going camping, attending her daughter’s soccer games and spoiling her 3 grandchildren. She ran on grandbaby cuddles, chai tea lattes and Hallmark Christmas Movies. She knew them so well she could quote them in her sleep (and sometimes, she did). On August 15, 2018 she was diagnosed with ALS. After her diagnosis, she lived her life to the fullest. She got matching mother-daughter tattoos, she visited Graceland and finally went to Hawaii with Dave. She fought the disease head on with such grace and courage. She succumbed to pneumonia and ALS on December 2nd with her husband of nearly 50 years by her side. She was known for her infectious smile, her contagious, high pitched laugh, her words of wisdom and the best hugs. For us, she was known for walking around the house before work in her clanky shoes while unloading the dishwasher as a Good Morning wake up call. (I secretly miss it and now do it to my own children.) To say she will be missed by many is an understatement, but we find peace and comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is dancing with The King.
She is survived by her loving husband David Wolfley, her daughter Delena (Brian) Bumpas and her three grandchildren Olivia, Averie and Aiden.
She is preceded in death by her Father, Robert O’Brien and her Mother, Laura O’Brien.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the ALS Association.
