Shirley Mae Melvin

February 23, 1937 — May 22, 2021

Speedway, IN

Shirley Mae Melvin (Campbell), 84, passed away on May 22, 2021 in Indianapolis, IN.  She was born February 23, 1937 in Spencer, IN to the late Chester and Cora Campbell.

After graduating from Spencer High School, Shirley moved to Indianapolis and began work at Indiana Bell, where she met the love of her life, Robert T. “Bob” Melvin.  Bob had returned from the Marine Corps and also worked at Indiana Bell.   As their love story grew, their family blossomed with two sons, Brad and Brian Melvin.  The Melvin’s raised their sons in Speedway and continued their love there throughout the years.

Shirley loved to garden and to share her flowers with neighbors and friends, giving everyone the gift of beautiful plants and flowers.  As a dedicated mother and grandmother, she poured her love into her family, being an example of a godly woman.   Shirley’s love for animals never ceased, always accepting and tending for animals in need.   However, Shirley’s greatest passion was for God, loving to sing, worship, serve, and praise Him.   She wanted everyone she met to know Jesus and to be saved, always caring for their souls.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Melvin; sons Brad and Brian Melvin; grandchildren Kristin Tharp (Melvin), Karl, and Joshua Melvin; siblings Greg Campbell, Mike Campbell, Marvin Campbell, Audrey Miller, and Nancy LaFaure.

She is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Cora Campbell; siblings Denny Campbell, Donald Campbell, Doris Haupt, and Morris Campbell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship in Christ Church, 310 N. Rangeline Rd, Carmel, IN 46032.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 2 pm, at Flanner Buchanan- Speedway, 2950 North High School Road, Indianapolis, 46224.
