Samuel Morgan VanBuskirk of Indianapolis and formerly of Ft. Wayne entered eternal rest on July 18, 2018 at the age of 87.
He was born December 5, 1930 in Ft. Wayne to Loyd and Ferol (nee Fortney) VanBuskirk. He was a graduate of South Side High School. After high school Sam began his banking career at Monroeville Bank before serving his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He then continued his work in banking at Lincoln National Bank in Ft. Wayne, as Vice President and Cashier, before relocating to Indianapolis where he joined the American Fletcher National Bank/Bank One. He was involved in many professional banking organizations. He graduated from the Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking, he also attended the American Institute of Banking, IBM management courses and a liberal arts program at Wabash College. He enjoyed traveling, reading, golfing, bowling, swimming and most importantly his family. He was an active member of the Servants of Christ Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years Joanne (nee Uetrecht) VanBuskirk; children Susan Brown (Curt) and Mark VanBuskirk (Jody); grandchildren Kyle, Eric, Janelle, Lara, Natalie, and Caroline; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren; sister Sally Huebner; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 3 to 8 PM at Servants of Christ Lutheran Church, 7650 Oaklandon Rd, Indianapolis. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 21, 2018 with visitation at 10 AM until the time of service at the church. He will be laid to rest at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, 2507 Engle Rd, Ft. Wayne, IN. A graveside service will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Memorial contributions in Sam’s name may be made to the Servants of Christ Lutheran Church.
