Ruth Marie Tipton

Ruth Marie Tipton passed away peacefully on October 6, 2018 after a 6 year battle with cancer.  She was born, raised, and lived most of her life in Indianapolis, IN.  After graduating from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, she obtained an RN degree at St Vincent Hospital School of Nursing.   She practiced nursing until her family grew; then homemaker became her lifelong commitment.

She will be missed dearly by her immediate family: son Jeff Gaddy & wife Marilyn, daughter Anne Gaddy (grandson Joel Shepherd & wife Amy, great grandchildren Reagan, Hadley and Ledger), (granddaughter Kristin Jones & husband Landon, great grandchildren Parker & Zane), daughter Gloria Gaddy-Stevens & husband Jerry Stevens (step grandchildren Hannah & Ben), son Joe Gaddy & wife Cindi (grandson Ben), son Jay Gaddy (grandson Nate), stepson Dave Tipton & wife Sandy (stepgranddaughter Maddy), and the many others that also called her Mom or Gramma.

She was the last living child of Harvey and Kathryn Bicknell.  She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her sisters Sally Yeager (husband Bud) and Susie Buchanan.

She was kind, giving, sweet and loved to shop, read, fish, play euchre and sing karaoke. She was a great cook and loved planning family celebrations. She was the glue of the family. She never saw her needs ahead of being generous to others.  She was Mrs. Claus at all times and Christmas was her favorite holiday because she loved to find that perfect gift for everyone. Everyone she met was touched by her generosity. Optimism was always her strength. Through tough times in her life, tomorrow was always “a new day”.  She loved being surrounded by her family and friends.

We are honoring her wishes with a small family gathering to scatter her cremated remains in the Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North lake where she will join her late husband, Joe Tipton.
