Roberta Jean “Bobbie” Johnson, 67 of Noblesville, IN passed away in her home on May 28, 2021 surrounded by family after an 8-year battle with cancer.
She was born on April 18, 1954 in Hammond, IN. She was a graduate of Morton Senior High School in 1972. In 2012 she received her Associates of Science in Education from Ivy Tech, graduating with honors. Bobbie worked for two decades as an Instructional Assistant for the School City of Hammond and St’s. Joan of Arc and Patrick Schools in Kokomo, IN. Bobbie was dedicated to improving the quality of education and the lives of all the special needs children that she worked with. Bobbie also was a license Real Estate agent in Lake County Indiana working with T.J. Boyle based in Dyer, Indiana.
During the mid-90’s Bobbie found her spiritual home in the Catholic church. She completed the RCIA program at St. Catherine’s of Sienna in Hammond where she began a lifelong passion of service to the church. She spent many hours volunteering her time at fish fry’s, bingo, festivals, bake sales and other community events. She was always the first to arrive and the last to leave making sure everything had been taken care of. She never hesitated to jump in and help with anything that needed to be done.
Bobbie’s true passion, however, was singing in the church. Joining the church choir and also became a cantor. She spent hours practicing her singing and sang for countless weddings, funerals, and masses. Bobbie knew she had a gift and loved to share that gift of singing with the rest of the community. In addition to her church involvement Bobbie enjoyed gardening, reading, spending time with family.
On March 17th 1989 (St. Patrick’s Day), Bobbie married her soulmate Dennis A. Johnson. Dennis and Bobbie were married over 32 years. The two of them enjoyed traveling to Cancun, attending concerts and visiting family.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gilson and Florence Hughes, sister Laura DeLarbre, and nephew Aaron Mitchell.
Bobbie is survived by husband Dennis Johnson, children Timothy Byers, Amy (Benjamin) Moses, Adam Burcham, Beth (Jeremy) Faught, Jena (Matt) Morris, Dennis Jr (a.k.a. Dewey), grandchildren Vanessa Byers (Brian Bajda), Josilyn Byers (Luke Dunn), Dylan Bailey, James Moses, Elliot & Amelia Grace Morris, and great grandson Logan Bajda. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
