INDIANAPOLIS – Robert Paul Courtney, 90, of Wanamaker, Indiana passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, MN.  He was the son of Allen James (A.J.) and Hazel Roane Courtney.

Robert was born in Indianapolis on February 11, 1932.  He graduated from Franklin Township High School and Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering.  After graduating from Purdue, he served two years in the army.  He then returned to Indianapolis and began a thirty-nine year career at Indianapolis Power and Light Company.

He married Barbara Courtney on May 29, 1954. Together they had six children who all claim to be his favorite.  Family was his life and he loved it when we were all together.  He loved spending the summer at their cabin in northern Minnesota on Pelican Lake.  Sharing it with family and friends brought him added joy.  He loved to fish and do carpentry and woodworking.  He built their house and helped his kids remodel their homes, which spoke of his love for his family.  Robert was a long time member of Ritter Avenue Free Methodist Church and attended Lakeview Baptist Church in Orr, Minnesota.

He is survived by his six children, Karen (John) Young, Michael (Lisa) Courtney, Larry (Pattie) Courtney, Paula Courtney, Nancy Bradley, Bill Courtney, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a sister, Jan (Dick) Stiers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Courtney; his parents, A.J. and Hazel Courtney; and siblings, Evelyn Snodgrass, Gene Courtney, and William Courtney.

Visitation and Funeral will be at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St., Indianapolis, IN.  Visitation will be Monday, September 12, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  Funeral will be Tuesday, September 13, 2022, 11:00 a.m.
