Fishers, Indiana

Robert Lee “Bob” Harrison, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 11, 2023 at the age of 92.  He was born September 22, 1930 in St. Louis, MO for Thomas and Rosamonde Harrison.

Before entering the insurance business, Bob spent 10 years with the New York Giants and Baltimore Orioles organizations, interrupted by a two-year stint in the Korean War for the US Army.  During this time, he earned many recognitions, including Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and two Bronze Service Stars.

He began his insurance career with the New England Mutual Insurance Co. before joining Indiana Lumbermens in 1962 as Lumber Sales Representative.  Ten years after joining Lumbermens, he was promoted to Vice President of Sales, and in 1975 became Executive Vice President.  He then became President of Indiana Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Co. in 1978 and ultimately retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2008 after 46 years of service to ILM.  Throughout this time, he also served as an officer and director of NAMICO Insurance Co., Chairman of the Indiana Insurance Institute, Alliance of American Insurers, National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, and Insurance Education Foundation.

Above all else, Bob was known for his great love of family.  He was married to Katherine “Katie” Harrison in 1972.  In 45 years of marriage, they enjoyed many adventures as they loved to travel, visit new restaurants, and experience life together.  They loved to entertain family and friends and their house was never short on fun, laughter, love, or food.

Bob also had a love for golf.  He was fortunate to visit many of the top US golf courses including Pebble Beach, one of his favorites.  Bob & Katie were members of Woodland Country Club, where they built many new friendships and created lasting memories for themselves and their family.  He loved baseball and was always sure to keep up with his hometown team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Anyone who knew him, knows of his quick wit and welcoming presence.  He was well thought of and formed lasting friendships with many.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his two daughters Jacquelyn and Lorraine; his grandchildren: Daniel (Kristen), Justin (Karrah) and Katie (Carl); his great-grandchildren: Guenwhyvar, Gavin, Alaina, Olivia, Lawson, and Patrick.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Katherine “Katie” Harrison; his sisters: Catherine (John) and Jule (Frank); as well as his son-in-law Jay.
