Passed away on February 25, 2019 at the age of 87. Bob was born June 30, 1931 in Rochester, NY to Mabel and William Leo O’Brien. He graduated from Madison High School and later received a business degree from RBI in Rochester. Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 expecting to deploy to Korea. During basic training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, he impressed his commander with his office skills and was stationed there. After serving two years’ active duty and achieving the rank of corporal, he joined the US Army Reserve. Bob worked for the Construction League of Indianapolis for 57 years most recently as plan room manager.
Bob enjoyed collecting art and antique model cars. He was an avid fan of auto racing and specifically the Indianapolis 500. Most of all, he enjoyed decorating and celebrating Christmas.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Norma, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Scooter.
Bob was preceded in death by his partner Harry Rose of Indianapolis; his parents; and his siblings Art, Norman, Dorothy, Billy, and Gladys of Rochester, NY.
Visitation will be held on March 16, 2019 from 12noon-1pm at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park. A funeral service will follow immediately at 1pm, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
