Robert Alvin Hulse of Noblesville Indiana passed away on January 7, 2019 a few days short of his 99th birthday. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Roth (David) and son, Lamont Hulse (Cathleen Donnelly); grandchildren, Douglas Roth (Annie), Rebecca Reid (Seth), Suzanne Morse (Bryan), and Emma Hulse (Jordan); and great-grandchild, Charles Morse. Robert was one of nine children of Alvin and Agnes (Moon) Hulse and is survived by two sisters, Ellen Black and Patricia Mead, and one brother Tom Hulse. His wife of 53 years, Loraine Miller Hulse, preceded him in 1997.
Robert graduated from Middletown (IN) High School in 1938. In early 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and proudly served in the Aleutian Islands, as an airplane crew chief leader and flight mechanic on B-17 and B-25 bombers, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and developing a lifetime aversion to the cold. A gifted mechanic, Robert worked as an auto service manager and then for General Motors in the Motors Insurance Corporation Division until 1975. He celebrated retirement by building and fixing. He used his talented hands to build two houses and remodeled several others. He kept his kids and grandkid’s vehicles on the road, and lovingly restored antiques for them, too. He also served on the board of the First United Methodist Church of Noblesville, where he was a member for over forty years. Robert was a member of the Masonic Shrine and the Noblesville Elks.
Robert was a devoted son; an adored brother; a loyal and loving husband and father. As “Bobob,” he realized his greatest role, as a generous and doting grandfather, the world’s biggest fan of Doug, Rebecca, Suze, Emma and Charlie. Those who love him will miss his fierce independence, stubborn sense of justice, and his kind and gentle spirit.
