Richard I. McGee Jr., of Indianapolis, IN, left this world and went home on January 4, 2023. His family and friends will miss him, and he will always hold a special place in our hearts!
He was the son of the late Richard I. McGee Sr. and Ione M. Bowyer of Clarksburg, WV.
Richard is survived by his former wife Dianne (Jerry) Wales, daughter Michelle McGee, son Richard (Rose) McGee III, and former wife Debra McGee, daughter Nicole McGee, and stepson Joey (Christina) Utley. He is also survived by his brother Michael (Kathy) McGee, brother Steven McGee, former sisters-in-law Sharon (Larry) Hockenberry and Carol McGee (deceased), eleven loving grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Richard graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was part of the first African Americans to graduate from West Virginia University School of Engineering. After graduating college, he took a job with Naval Air Warfare Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Throughout his life, Richard befriended many people who were drawn to him by his contagious smile, striking eye color, unusual laugh, relaxed view of life and his willingness to see the good in people. He was known for his restless spirit, passion for parks, desire to travel and his interest in figuring out how things work, he was always tinkering with something. Richard enjoyed a wide range of activities, diverse hobbies and explored varies passions. He shared with his children his love of cars, golf, bowling, photography, woodworking, restlessness, joy of travel, computers, flying, love of nature, and a willingness to try new things that challenged him intellectually and artistically.
We invite family and friends to come and celebrate the life of Richard I. McGee, Jr. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North Funeral Home, 2706 Kessler Blvd, W Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Visitation is from 10 am to noon, with the celebration of life service starting at noon on Saturday.
