Phyllis Jane (Young) Perkins, age 88, of Indianapolis peacefully passed away at Community Hospital North on December 30, 2022. She was born October 21, 1934, in Peoga, Indiana. She was the daughter of James W. and Irene C. (Beeler) Young. Phyllis was a devoted housewife, mother, and Nana. She loved traveling and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She had many hobbies, including camping, fishing, reading, and sewing. She spent several Saturdays selling her Barbie tents at local craft shows. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Marion Perkins, as well as two daughters and one son: Tammy (Don) Nieten, Ken Perkins, and Terry Perkins. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jason (Laura) Nieten, Scott (Abby) Nieten, Tony (Samantha) Nieten, Traci (Roy) West, Stephanie (Stevie Bartlett) Perkins, Kelli (Kyle) Thomas, Chelsey Root, Bridget Perkins, and Abby Perkins—as well as 11 great-grandchildren: Emily Nieten, Chase Nieten, Cooper Nieten, Bryce Nieten, Alec Nieten, Cora Nieten, Blakely Nieten, Logan West, Carter West, Jackson West, and Brooks Thomas. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her infant daughter, T. Rose Perkins; two sisters, Juanita Gentry and Rosemary Perkins; and a brother, James G. Young. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229 with burial to Washington Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Susan G. Komen Society, American Heart Association, or American Lung Association.
