Philip Lock Catlin

October 20, 1983 — July 5, 2016

Catlin, Philip Lock (October 20, 1983 – July 5, 2016)
Philip’s journey through life, though too short, touched many. Philip loved people and they loved him (even their dog, Jack). He was given an early start to live with our Lord Jesus Christ and the loved ones who preceded him. Philip was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he graduated from the University of Utah with degrees in biology and chemistry. Philip was gifted in science, math and most notably, a loving heart. In 2007, Philip moved to Indianapolis where he met the love of his life Erin McAllen. They married on March 21, 2015. Together they attended Trinity Church where they were devout followers of Jesus Christ. Philip struggled with addiction after his teenage years. The important part of that story is that Phil committed himself to overcome his addiction with help from family, friends and God. This is one of Phil’s legacies because he set such a good example for others that shared the struggle of addiction. Because of Philip, some of the lives he touched are still here today and are able to thank him for the inspiration he gave them. Most recently Philip was enrolled for his Master’s degree at Indiana University School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences where he had excelled and completed most of his classroom studies to become a Physician’s Assistant. Philip was looking forward to his clinical rotations so that he could roll up his sleeves and get down to the business of helping others. More than anything else Philip looked forward to his life with Erin. Ruled accidental, the cause of Philip’s death is unknown at this time. What is known is his love for life and desire to do his part in making this world a better place. Philip is grieved by Erin, his devoted wife; his mother, Terry Catlin (George Diwachak); his father, Robert Lock Catlin (Teresa); his sister, Danielle Coon (Walter) and their young children–Andrew, Aiden, and William; his grandfather, Phil Lavorgna (Linda), his uncles, Bruce Lavorgna (Terri) and Jon Catlin (Crystal); his aunts Susan, Ann and Sally Catlin (Gabe Filippelli); cousins, Anthony, Shawn, Chelsea, Peter, Clay, Lana & Ella. Philip had become a son to Kathy and John McAllen and a brother to Lauren and Scott. He was greatly loved by their extended family. He will be sorely missed by his many friends. He is predeceased in death by his grandparents Betty Lavorgna and Edith and George Lock Catlin. Please join Philip’s family and friends in honoring him at Flanner & Buchanan Memorial Park, 9350 East Washington St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. The viewing and visitation will be Thursday, July 14th from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. A memorial service will be Friday, July 15th at 10:00 A. M. followed by burial. In honor of Philip, a lunch will be provided which will include all of his favorite foods following the funeral service. Location and directions to the lunch will be provided at the funeral. Philip had a deep connection and a true desire to help those served by both The Progress House (www.progresshouse.org) and Gennesaret Clinic (www.gennesaret.org). Memorial donations to these organizations are greatly appreciated.
