Paul E. "Gene" Clements, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. He was born on May 2, 1929 in Montgomery, IN to Ezra Matthew and Delpha Agnes (Nolley) Clements. Gene attended St. Meinrad Seminary from 1943-1944, and graduated from Cathedral High School, enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1946. Gene served during WWII and the Korean War, where he spent 878 days as a Prisoner of War. He was the 1st repatriated prisoner of the Korean War to be released across the Freedom Bridge. Gene was an avid bowler; having had 2 perfect games in his lifetime. He bowled in several area leagues, including the Senior Traveling League. Gene and his family enjoyed traveling and spending time gambling at the riverboat. He was a 17 year member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, and previously attended at St. Simon Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Betty Louise (Wegener) Clements; children, Diane (John) Hepler, Rocky (Alyson) Clements, Ron (Kathy) Clements, Barbara (Gary) Lane; 8 grandchildren, Nichole, Stacey, Tony, Amanda, Katie, Teri, Jennifer, Jessica; and 10 great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by sisters, Priscilla Smith and Beverly Shelly; brother, Leo Clements; and beloved nephews, Mark, Jim and Nick Clements and Families. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alberta Arundale; and wife, Velma Jean Clements, who passed away in 1994. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan Speedway from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning at 11am in St. Christopher Catholic Church. Additional visitation will be held at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
