The Reverend Daniel Strobel, 68
Daniel Michael Strobel, 68, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on July 6, 2020 peacefully in his sleep.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM on July 10, 2020 at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held outdoors on the lawn of Messiah Lutheran Brownsburg at 1:00 PM on July 11, 2020. Reverend J. Erik Allen of Messiah will be officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 13th at St. Johns Cemetery located in Fort Wayne IN.
Dan was born in Queens, New York on March 29, 1952. He graduated from Martin Luther High School and continued on to receive an Associate of Arts Degree from Concordia Bronxville. In 1974, Dan graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Concordia Senior College located in Fort Wayne Indiana. While a student at the Senior College, Dan especially enjoyed his Victorian Poetry class. Pastor Dan earned his Master of Divinity from Gettysburg Theological Seminary. He was ordained a pastor in the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) by Bishop James Graefe on June 3rd, 1978. Pastor Dan faithfully served congregations in Rhinebeck, NY, Fort Wayne, IN, and Speedway, IN until his retirement in June of 2018. Pastor Dan supervised three deaconess interns and mentored hundreds of confirmation students. Dan’s greatest gift for ministry was his availability and adaptability. Pastor Dan was communicative, open-mined, and exuded generosity.
Dan was married to Nancy E. Strobel (Wright) on July 7, 1979; they were married 40 years.
For over 40 years, Dan loved serving the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and its predecessor bodies. He enjoyed singing, storytelling, watching movies, connecting on Facebook, and spending time with his friends and family. He was also actively involved in community organizations.
Dan is survived by his wife Nancy, two children, Ronald J. Strobel and his wife Mary, Eric M. Strobel and his wife Heidi; his 4 grandchildren Ben, Piper, Helen, and Elliot; his sister Nancy L. Mclaughlin; brother Michael F. Strobel; sister-in-law Christine Strobel; brother-in-law Thomas Mclaughlin; his nephews and niece; and the rest of his relatives and friends.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald L. Strobel and Helen L. Strobel
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Martin Luther High School, 60-02 Maspeth Avenue Maspeth, NY 11378 USA. The family of Daniel M. Strobel wishes to thank all former and current parishioners of St. Paul’s Wurtemburg, Memorial Rock City, Faith Ft Wayne, and St Andrew’s Speedway.
