Nannette M. Schmitt, 79 of Carmel passed away Friday, November 2, 2018. Nannette was born May 11, 1939 in Houma, LA to the late Prosper and Wilma Toups. She was a graduate of Charity Hospital and Tulane University.
Nannette was an anesthetist. She worked at Charity Hospital in Louisiana, Miami Heart Institute and retired in 1997 from St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, after 18 years of service, where she was proud to have been involved in the birth and delivery of thousands of babies.
Nannette was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and the Hamilton County Artists Association. Her joy in life was spending time with her 2 grandsons and family. She and Mike loved to travel, traveling Internationally and locally. They also took many trips back to Louisiana, where she was very proud of her Southern Louisiana heritage. She was also a published author, Remember Last Island.
Nannette is survived by her husband of 54 years, J. Michael Schmitt; daughters, Erin M. (husband, Jack) Beery and Deborah M. Schmitt; grandchildren, Britton and Bryce Beery; sisters, Diana Durham and Priscilla Pendzimaz; brothers, Prosper, Jr., Alcide and Peter Toups; 24 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Adonis and Esther Toups.
Services at St Elizabeth Ann Seton in Carmel, In, will be guest officiated by her two nephews, Father Mark Toups and Deacon Robert Pendzimaz.
