Myron Scott Butler, or “Dip” as he was known and called by his family, earned his angel wings on May 10, 2021. Myron was born on December 15, 1958 to the late Scott Amos Butler and Mary Larkin Butler.
Myron was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church and served as an altar boy. He attended elementary and middle school in Shreveport. After his family moved, he completed his last year of middle school and high school in Minden, Louisiana, where he attended Minden High. Myron loved all sports, but the game of basketball was his favorite. His senior year he was named MVP in 2 2-AAAA District. Upon graduation from Minden High, Myron received many offers to play college basketball, where he decided to take his talent to The College of the Ozarks, where he was named All-NAIA and AIC honorable mention. Myron received his BA Degree from The College of the Ozarks. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. After completing his military duties, Myron was hired at General Electric, where he worked for 31 years. On July 24, 1993, Myron became the proud father of twin daughters, Kiana and Kayla.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Scott Amos Butler and Mary Larkin Butler; his paternal grandparents, Timothy and Lillie Butler; and his maternal grandparents, Willie and Jessie Larkin.
Myron will be missed by twin daughters, Kiana Hardy-Butler and Kayla Hardy-Butler (Cody Mansfield); sisters, Laverne Butler, Donna Butler, Iona Butler Tarkington, and Aunah Butler Duncan (Drew); nieces, LaToya Tarkington and Nakita Tarkington; nephews, Terraunce Bowie, Jermaine Green and Edjuan Green; 2 great nephews, Christopher Hicks and Dylan Easley; a cousin/brother, David Butler; aunts, Helen Butler, Versie Larkin, Mable Boyd, and Annette Larkin; and a host of uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1pm at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park in Indianapolis, Indiana. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 12:30-1:30pm at Brookside Funeral Home in Houston, Texas. A Graveside Service will be Tuesday June 1, 2021 at 2:15pm at Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Myron’s name to any charity of your choice.
