Beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Brother and Son, Mike Hocutt of Zionsville passed peacefully in his sleep on February 2, 2022. Michael Jay Hocutt was born September 11, 1961, to Harold and Lois (Doane) Hocutt in LaPorte, Indiana. Mike lived a life of laughter, service, and devotion. He was the first to crack a joke, or quote a movie, accompanied by his infectious smile. Mike never knew a stranger, and was a mentor, and a dearly loved friend to many.
Most knew Mike as an incredible athlete, being a professional baseball player, and his love for sports inspired much of his life. He was an avid coach of many young athletes in the community and never missed a game in any sport his children played. Mike was a role model to many with his continued reassurance that hard work and heart can always beat talent.
One can’t speak of Mike’s life without noting his love and devotion to his wife Gail, with whom he celebrated 37 years together, marrying September 15th, 1984. Through the trials of his health, Gail stood by his side as his solace and his support. An unwavering representation of their commitment to each other, through sickness and health.
Mike’s greatest joy in his life was his children Zach, Caleb, and Alexandra and his five grandchildren. He had such pride in every accomplishment and milestone, ever a proud Father and Papa. Even in faltering health, he found great joy in his grandchildren and the unconditional love they gave him.
Mike is survived by his wife Gail (Thornburgh) Hocutt, brother Randall (Jan) Hocutt, and children Zachary (Janelle) Hocutt, Caleb Hocutt, and Alexandra (Brent) Aarons, his grandchildren Mackenzie, Abigail, Camden, Charlotte, and Calvin, and his 6 Granddogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandmother Edith (Doane) Kaley.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30
