Michael Franklin Mcguire

September 7, 1948 — March 9, 2023

Michael Franklin McGuire, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, left this earth for heavenly abode on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Noblesville, IN. Michael—better known as Mike, Mikey, or the Life of the Party—was born to Peter Harry McGuire and Edna Sailor McGuire on September 7, 1948, as the second youngest of six children. Mike leaves behind a lifetime of love and cherished memories to his only daughter Heather McGuire Dickerson and son-in-law Randy Dickerson; his beloved grandchildren Conner R. Dickerson and Kaley A. Cunningham (Dickerson); his sisters Edna Brinker, Patricia Doran, and Pamela Alexander; his brother Peter “Butch” McGuire, Jr; his sister-in-law Sue McGuire; his brothers-in-law Philip Doran and George Alexander; and long time friend Lisa Wulle. Mike is predeceased by his father Peter, brother James, wife Judy A. Cherry McGuire, mother Edna, and brother-in-law Thomas Brinker.

Mike lived on the eastside of Indianapolis for most of his childhood and graduated from Warren Central High School in the Spring of 1967. Mike married his high school sweetheart Judy on June 5, 1967 and started their own family after giving birth to Heather. Mike was shortly enrolled at Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis and began his career with United Parcel Service. A Few years later he was transferred to the South Bend location.  He, Judy, and Heather settled nearby in Bremen, IN for 13 years. He was a member of First United Church of Christ Bremen and was always known for being the cool parent amongst Heather’s friends. He and Judy eventually moved to Noblesville, IN in 1986, where with an eye for detail and good taste, he spent over 20 years in the custom flooring business. Mike and Judy were happily married for nearly 36 years before Judy passed away due to complications from renal cell cancer on January 6, 2003. Mike deeply loved Judy and carried his wedding band with him every day after her passing.

Everybody loved Mikey. With his dashing good looks and boyish charm, he brought the magnetic energy to every party or family gathering to which everyone was drawn. In public, he was often mistaken for Joe Namath, and he always had a zinger or story to share. While he competed in track and field at Warren Central, later in life he traded his pole vault for golf clubs. Despite scoring an astounding 4 holes-in-one at 3 separate golf courses in his lifetime, he was still a disgruntled golfer. Some say they can still hear him muttering under his breath after a signature slice. Mike was well known for his pot of chili or vegetable soup and his famous green beans at holiday dinners. He was the King of turkey carving at Thanksgiving and prepared annually  by watching  “How To” on the morning show.

Above the casino and golf, Mike loved his family more than anything in this world. He beamed with pride for his grandchildren and carried their pictures with him everywhere. Mike never missed one of their concerts, ball games, cheer competitions, scouting events, karate tournaments, or graduation ceremonies, and even attended some family vacations. Don’t let him fool you, though— he also loved his families’ dogs despite calling them, “wild animals.” Mike’s love and caring spirit extended to his many friends, coworkers, and employees. Mike treated his employees like family and celebrated many major holidays alongside them and their families.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on May 5, 2023, from 1-3 pm at Prairie Waters Event Center in Westfield, IN. Please contact the family for more information. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Cool Lake Golf Club and mailed to Randy and Heather Dickerson at 16854 Creek Trail Drive, Noblesville, IN 46062.  A Donation will be made in his name to support one of 4 youth golf programs they have at the course.
