Melba Marie Posey, 96, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on December 30, 2022. Marie (as she was known) was born to parents Raymond and Leona Gilbrech on November 9, 1926, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was a life-long West-side resident, a long-time Sunday school teacher, and member of Mars Hill Free Methodist Church, and West Morris Street Free Methodist Church.
Marie is described by many as a selfless, caring person who was strong in her faith and always willing to help someone in need. She had a great love for her family, and one of her favorite things to do was feed them. She was an amazing cook who will long be remembered for some of her famous recipes.
Marie was an amazing mother and grandmother to many, some of whom were not related by blood, but that never mattered to her. If you were at her house, you would be fed and loved, and treated like one of her own.
Marie was often involved in activities to support her community such as working the polls on election day and serving on multiple juries as she did her civic duty.
Marie is survived by her children Linda (Randy) Schneider, Julie (Steve) Routh, William (Maureen) Posey; her grandchildren Tracy Schneider, Angela Berninger, Shelly Harrison, Derek Schneider, Shannon Chang-Leung, Heather Schneider, Scott Speers, Bridget Runyan and Mary Posey; her great-grandchildren Nathan Kress, Nick Berninger, Alec Berninger, Kali Speers, McKenzie Snowden, Ava Knox, Rylee Harrison, Karlee Harrison, Zachary Harrison, Derek Schneider, Jr., William Schneider, Tyler Toms, Hailey Toms, Taylor Runyan, Preston Chang-Leung, Brooklyn Chang-Leung, Emy Shelby-Hillman; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Leona Gilbrech, her brother Donald Gilbrech, her husband of 68 years Floyd V. Posey, and her granddaughter Amy Christine Posey.
