Matthew L. Griffin, 48, of Carmel passed away January 27, 2023. He was born November 6, 1974 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Roger and Marilyn Griffin.
He grew up in Lexington, Indiana, and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1993. He graduated from Ball State University with three degrees: Economics, Urban Planning and Design and Environmental Design. He also ran cross country and track. While at Ball State, he met his future wife, Emily Huckleberry, and they were married on January 5, 2002.
Matt enjoyed a wonderful career in urban planning before switching to the private sector as a real estate developer. Matt then joined the Garrett Companies as the Chief Operating Officer where he was able to utilize his talents and skills with a company he loved.
Matt was an astute businessman and inventor (most famously known for the Baker’s Edge Brownie Pan), but above all else he was a family man. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He looked forward to their yearly trips to the beach and to the mountains for skiing, but most of all he enjoyed the daily interactions with his family. He encouraged his children to be creative, to use their imaginations and to always be open to new adventures. He demonstrated this by curating art as well as creating it, planting grand gardens, playing games, exercising and running, and most of all sharing his passion for life and laughter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Emily; their three children, Gavin, Greta and Gabriella; parents, Roger and Marilyn Griffin; maternal grandmother, Gladys Eyhorn; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Roseanne Huckleberry; sister-in-law Sarah Huckleberry; and brother-in-law Edward (Misty) Huckleberry; as well as many wonderful friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Shamaine) Griffin.
