Mary Anne "Anne" Berkeley

December 25, 1930 — March 9, 2022

Indianapolis, Indiana

Anne Berkeley, 91, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2022. Anne was born in Steubenville, OH to Mary and Harry Ewing. Being born on Christmas Day, her brother was able to win the best Christmas present ever when competing with the neighbor boy holding up his puppy in the window and Anne’s brother, Bill, holding up a baby sister! She attended Muskingum University and had a long career as an Administrative Assistant notably, Butler School of Religion, Christian Theological Seminary (at the grassroots beginning), Park School and later was known as Park-Tudor and finally Butler University. Anne resided in Cleveland, OH where she met the love of her life, Lewis Berkeley. They married on June 15, 1957. Together, Anne and Lew created a family and resided on the old campus of Park School and later moved to Broad Ripple when the Park campus moved to 71st Street and College. Anne not only had her own family but was an unorthodox angel to her sister Marge and children, Paul and Carrie, who lived across the street. She enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. She was an avid reader, bird watcher, knitter, crossword puzzler and quilter. When Lew passed away in 1998, Anne moved to a smaller home across and down the street and adopted a dog Maggie who provided great companionship for the next part of her life. In her retirement years, she worked with her good friend Lillian Barcio who ran a small newspaper in Broad Ripple called The Village Sampler. She enjoyed family gatherings, trips to Florida to see her sister Martha and many excursions with her daughter Beth, notably the trip to the East Coast for a family reunion on the Berkeley side. She has been blessed with long term friendships including Janet Geckeler, Bobbie Mackay, the Reese’s, the Barcio’s, Joie, Pat, Bridget, the staff and residents of American Village and many others. She was loved by so many because of her kind spirit. The family would like to acknowledge the team with Life’s Journey Hospice Care, and the staff at Hooverwood Living – Kraft Commons because they all treated Anne as if they were family.

She is survived by her children, Craig L Berkeley (Audrie), Beth Sahaidachny (Nick), grandchildren, Laurin Knox, Nick Berkeley (Leah), Meredith Berkeley, Mitchell Berkeley, Rachel Sahaidachny ( Matt), Karena Sahaidachny (Bobby), the late Michael Pennington (Shannon), Jessie Troisi (Aaron), Sophie Malin (Steve), and numerous nieces and nephews.
