Margaret Perry Frazier

September 20, 1944 — April 26, 2023

Fishers, Indiana

Margaret Perry Frazier, 78, most recently of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on April 26, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on September 20, 1944 in Portland Maine to Wilfred and Margaret Perry (Ward) and grew up in Hampden, Maine. She attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor. Maggie (or Peggy to her childhood family and friends) was predeceased by her husband Peter and her son Garth Stokes Frazier, and her brothers Billy and Philip. She is survived by her daughter, Molly (Nathaniel) Macke, her grandchildren: Francis and Maisie, her sister, Barbara Perry, and her sister-in-law, Donna Perry; as well as many cousins.

Maggie was a true “Mainiac.” Near or far, the state of Maine was always in her heart, and in her accent.  After many years away, in 1997 Maggie and her family happily re-settled in Hampden, Maine having lived throughout the United States due to Peter’s work (Bainbridge, NY, Mequon, WI, Fayetteville, NY, Louisville, KY, Glen Ellyn, IL and also abroad in Winchester, England.)  In 2017, Maggie and Peter moved to Indiana to be closer to their beloved grandchildren and the past few years have been filled with joy, love and new friendships. Notably, her home was never without “fur people,” pets who provided many laughs—and furballs—over the years. Maggie leaves behind her beloved dog, Lili, and her lapcat “Cookie.”

Maggie’s passion for books and reading became her career. She received her Master’s degree in Library Science from Dominican University and worked as a reference librarian for over 20 years. She enjoyed leading book groups in discussion at the Bangor Public Library, and was much loved by her patrons. After retirement, Maggie continued to share her enthusiasm for reading by writing a monthly book review published in her community magazine.

Maggie was a devout Catholic and had made several pilgrimage trips overseas with Peter and her Maine church friends. Though she has travelled extensively, her favorite time was spent cuddled with a pet and a novel. When she wasn’t reading, Maggie enjoyed shopping with her daughter or walking Lili for miles at time. As a testament to her energy, she took up jogging in midlife and continued running until her late 60s. She was a lovely correspondent to many, generally crafting her handwritten letters before sunrise. As a mother and a grandmother (Nana or Nannie as she was called,) Maggie was unparalleled, and often said that this love was her “reason for being.” The absence of her beautiful smile, her generosity, her loyalty, her laughter and her unyielding support will be felt at every turn.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 10:30 at Holy Spirit Parish, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, Indiana.

Donations in her memory may be made in Maggie’s name to the Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St., Bangor, ME, 04401, or at a local animal shelter. May she rest in peace.
