Margaret A. Fleetwood

Indianapolis, Indiana

Margaret Ann (McCarthy) Fleetwood, 97, of Indianapolis, fortified by the Sacraments, passed away peacefully at Hoosier Village Health Care Center on Friday, April 24, 2020. Born in Chicago and a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles L. Fleetwood, and four of her children, Kay (Carroll), James, Charles, and Maureen (Black). She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Thom Carroll. She is survived by her children Eileen Carr (Julian), Mary Ann, Mike (Ann), Stephen (Lorelei), and Joan King (Kevin) as well as 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Margaret graduated from St. John Academy in 1939 and Marian College in 1943. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for over 50 years, a Grand Master Bridge player, speaker for the Panel of American Women, instrumental in the development of Junior Great Books program in the West Deanery, and with her husband, a Speaker for the Pre-Cana Archdiocesan program. Margaret’s lasting legacy is her selfless love and devotion to family, and her exceptionally kind and gentle spirit which were a hallmark of her life.

The family is so grateful for the loving care and compassion that she received in the 17 years that she was a resident at the Health Care Center at Hoosier Village. During the last three months, she also had the support from a caring team from St. Vincent’s Hospice.

A graveside service was conducted on Friday, May 1st at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.  At a later date, when family and friends can safely gather, a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Zionsville, Indiana.
