Major Jack Charles Vaughan, 90 of Eutaw, Alabama passed away on August 25, 2023.
He was born June 16, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Frank Alfonzo and Bertha Mae (Lancaster) Vaughan.
Jack was very athletic in high school lettering in football, track and baseball as well as being a gifted artist, sketching beautiful, detailed, works of art. He had many opportunities for his life but answered the calling from God and devoted his life serving mankind with The Salvation Army. Jack spent 45+ years of service with The Salvation Army with appointments in Springfield, Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, West Plains, Missouri, West Frankfort, Illinois, Moberly, Missouri, St. Louis, Missouri Euclid Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri Lafayette Park, St. Louis, Missouri Temple, Indianapolis, Indiana Central, Anderson, Indiana, Richmond, Indiana, Evansville, Indiana, Alton, Illinois, Elgin, Illinois, and the Quad Cities, Iowa. Even after retiring, God and The Salvation Army continued to need his services in an interim capacity, and he served several congregations until a permanent officer was appointed to lead that congregation.
He loved the Lord and certainly became the hands and feet of God in every community he was called to serve spending countless hours lending a helping hand and proclaiming the gospel and love of God. He has gained his heavenly home and now enjoys being with his loved one, and friends that had gone before him. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Major Lois (Hull) Vaughan who served side by side with Jack in all appointments The Salvation Army assigned them to. He is also survived by his children, Jackie D. (David) Knapp of Bethalto, Illinois, Kevin B. Vaughan of Columbia, Missouri, Brian W. (Cathey) Vaughan of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tim C. (Denise) Vaughan of Cottondale, Alabama, Valerie (Robert) Hartley of South Roxana, Illinois, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Besides his beloved parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lester Vaughan, Frank Vaughan, Bertha Puckett, Glenda Cuevas, and Shirley Bopp.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, 11:00am-1:00pm CST and the Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm CST in the Allan & Ciuferi Funeral Home, 314 W. Main Street Collinsville, Illinois. Major Mark Litherland will officiate the service. Jack will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to your local Salvation Army in Major Jack C. Vaughan’s memory.
