Linda Ann Mitchell passed away June 20, 2022 in Indianapolis, IN. Affectionately known to all her friends throughout life as Lynn, she came to Indianapolis in the early 1970’s after graduating from Girls’ Latin School and Boston University in Boston where she was born. Her father, Sumner Card, was a Boston fire captain and with his wife, Vera Card, raised Lynn.
Lynn was married to Larry W. Mitchell in 1972, sharing their 50th anniversary this May. She was 74 at her last birthday. Larry is a retiree of AT&T. There were no children. Lynn was preceded in death by her mother and father and a younger brother.
Soon after marriage, Lynn taught English at IUPUI, obtained a masters degree from Butler University and did PhD work at Purdue University, also teaching there. After years as an assistant professor at Ivy Tech, she changed professions propelling her love of literature and books into the business off bookstore management working variously at Borders and Waldenbooks, and Barnes & Noble bookstore.
Lynn had a serious scholars view and an active spiritual life in our community. Books and affiliation with both Jewish and Catholic life and practice filled her days.
She enjoyed living in the Broad Ripple area in her retirement and frequented its many restaurants and coffee shops.
A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 2pm at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple, with visitation 1 hour prior. Lynn is interred in Washington Park North Cemetery.
She fought a gritty battle with the medical illness of depression for most of her life. In her memory, the family encourages friends to consider contributing to any of many deserving mental health organizations.
